[fa.laser-lovers] Iron on transfers

I used to make some on a Xerox 6500 color copier. Someplace in
town(Rochester) sells a form of waxed paper that you run through the
machine. The waxed paper does not fuse the toner into itself, but
adheres it enough to keep the image. Once out of the machine you just
iron it on a tee shirt transfer the toner to the shirt. Try calling the
RIT library, they used to make them on the 6500 a while back and could
probably tell you where to get some. Remember toner is a polymer
plastic and once fused into a cloth fiber is pretty permanent. Shirts
are similar to paper in this respect. I wouldn't recommend plain waxed
paper, this stuff was special so as not to catch fire and crumple during
the 3 passes in the fuser section of the machine.

The guys in Webster warned me not to do it on their machine, the paper
tended to jam and scratch the drum. The waxed paper was a bit thicker
than your ordinary 1024 paper. I suspect it was the material they use
in a photo mounting press that doesn't stick to the mounting tissue. At
least it feels that way.

[[Editor's note: Readers, please recall that this discussion started
with a warning that some of these products would damage a Canon CX
print engine---the engine used in the HP LaserJet, the Imagen 8/300,
the QMS 800, the Apple LaserWriter, and others. Use caution.
