[fa.laser-lovers] fonts, their existence, and their creation.

I am looking for fonts. I read the previous messages concerning the
Hershey fonts, and I have a few questions:

1) How many characters does the Hershey database contain? FancyFont,
a font program I use on the IBM PC with an epson, includes what
they call "The Hershey Character Database". This consists of
about 1500 chars, many of which are alphabets in fonts. Is this
the complete Hershey set? It was noted in a previous post that
the Hershey data is available on mag tape.
       a) Is it available directly online anywhere?
       b) How much does the supplier want for the tape? Will they put
the info on a tape sent to them?

2) I would like to find algorithms used when dealing with fonts and
printing, things like the symmetric DDA mentioned earlier and general
things, like algorithms to scale fonts (yes, i know how bad most of
them are...) and ones to do kerning, .....

3) Are there any truly (or effectively) public domain fonts out there
   other than the Hershey ones?

4) Is there anyone who would sell/license fonts at a reasonable price?

Veilen Dank.
