From: Vincent Manis <ubc-vision!cs.ubc.cdn!manis@uw-beaver.arpa> I too am unable to figure out precisely what sort of documentation is currently available for the LaserWriter. We have ordered one of the little beasties (and hope to order lots more) for use in a mixed Mac/Sun workstation network held together by Bill Croft's Seagate AppleTalk/Ethernet bridges. Unfortunately, some of the critical documentation seems to be nonexistent. Our local Apple office gave us some copies of LaserWriter documentation; it looked like a prerelease of the user manual, talking about cleaning corona wires. I got a copy of the PostScript manual from Adobe Systems very shortly after the LaserWriter was announced (what a winner PostScript is!!!), believing that Apple's documentation would *not* be ready by the end of February, as the rumour mill indicated it would be. So we ordered this machine (Can$7K consortium price) with no prospect of technical documentation. We're told that if we mail a certified cheque to Apple Canada in Toronto, we'll get "the LaserWriter documentation". But, first, University purchasing departments don't work that way, and second, we don't know what we'd get (perhaps a document on cleaning corona wires). I'm trying to avoid flaming about Apple's documentation policy, but I would appreciate constructive suggestions on what to do about this.

From: John W. Peterson <JW-Peterson@utah-20.arpa> It sounds like the document you want is "Inside LaserWriter". This is 3" loosleaf with the PostScript manual (a slightly extended version) and also some documents describing the interface and network protocols. It is available from the same source as "Inside Mac" (Apple home office). -------
