The problem, if there is one, will be with the software interpreting the DVI file and driving the printer. I don't think it has anything to do with the operating system beyond the choice of driving software available for a particular operating system. I have some experience getting resident fonts (Lucida*) to work with TeX under VMS, using the Kellerman & Smith Imprint software to drive our 8/300.
