From: Bhushan.pa@Xerox.ARPA Bob, this is in response to your question: "There were at one stage some rumours that the April 30 announcement might include increased support for InterPress. Has anyone heard anything?" The Xerox April 30 Directions announcement focussed on new products, business solutions, and communications and integrated systems strategy. Included in the statement of the systems strategy was support for XNS architecture (which includes Interpress) accross the Xerox product line. The Xerox Directions press kit contained numerous references to increased support for XNS and Interpress in all products. Specific references to Interpress support included about half page in the press release "Xerox outlines communications strategy and plans for new network products". All workstation products announced (6064, 6065, 6067, 6068 and 6085) support Interpress, as does the 700XPS publishing system. The two printers announced (Laser CP and 3700) will also support Interpress later this year. The press release for the 4045 Laser CP stated, "A different configuration of the 4045 Laser CP called the NS 8000 Laser CP will be available in fourth quarter 1985. The NS 8000 Laser CP will link to the Ethernet local area network through a Xerox 8000 Network System processor. This enables the Laser CP to become a shared resource printer on the Xerox Network System (XNS), using XNS protocols and the Interpress electronic printing standard." The press release for the 3700 stated, "The interface for the Ethernet local area network, the Xerox Network System protocols and the text subset of the Interpress electronic printing standard, will be available on the 3700 by late 1985."
