From: Les Earnest <LES@SU-AI.ARPA> [In reply to message sent Mon, 20 May 85 12:54:52 pdt.] Alan Schlenger: I am sorry that you have been offended by some of the nontechnical content of our discussions. Let me assure you that these confrontations are less personal than they may seem. Brian Reid has been a friend of mine for many years and I hope that doesn't change. The reason for the variations in temperature is that Brian is genetically programmed to flame and whenever I get flamed at I like to add gasoline just to see if we can toast marshmallows. I sometimes even learn things while subsequently looking for a bucket of cold water. We could try adding a temperature indicator to each message so that people who don't like to go above, say, 100 degrees C. can simply "delete before reading." The trouble with that idea, as I know from many years' network experience, is that one person's spark is another person's forest fire. I am open to suggestions. Cheers, Les Earnest Postscript postscript: For the benefit of Laser-Lovers in the San Francisco bay area who are interested in Postscript and would like to learn from the master zealot, Brian Reid is giving a talk on "PostScript - An image description language" this Wednesday (May 22) at 4:15 PM at Stanford's Terman Auditorium. I think I'll go.
