From: Cal Jackson <CALVIN@CIT-20.ARPA> Re: Les Earnest to Cal Jackson I am personally happy to hear that Imagen will shortly provide PostScript on their printers. Also, excited that Interpress will appear. Sounds like Imagen has pragmatic management and is in the hands of a super Board of Directors. I've always been impressed with the troops in the trenches. (This comment assumes that PostScript will eventually satisfy your, very reasonable, conditions (1) and (2).) This is really exciting: the years that have been expended in getting type designers/copyright-holders to license font designs to imaging manufacturers and the few months required to have imaging manufacturers share that event with a person that would like to be their own printer. Fantastic! Another point, and dear to me, it seems that a requirement is "quality." I'm sure, from reading the net mail, that traditional standards of quality will not be arbitrarily discarded. Thanks Les, and thanks to all the folks at Stanford for helping some interesting things to emerge from the closet. cal -------
