From: Les Earnest <LES@SU-AI.ARPA> Chris Torak: In response to your message of 31 May 85 08:45:19 edt, about "horrible disgusting swill," I suspect that you have never seen an Imagen font -- they have been available only the last couple of months. As I mentioned In my message of 29 Apr 85 1558 PDT, responding to similar earlier assertions: > Mr. gross is using Computer Modern fonts, courtesy of a fellow > down the hall named Don Knuth. Some people like CM fonts; most > typographers don't; in any case the credit/blame belongs to Prof. Knuth. > > Imagen *can* take the credit/blame for some new fonts that are being > released for their 8/300, 12/300, and 24/300 printing systems, including > Lucida*, Helvetica*, and Times Roman*. Before David Fuchs comes out of his cage again, I will agree that Imagen is still distributing second- or third-generation versions of Computer Modern fonts rather than the fourth-generation versions that are currently available. I have it on good authority that Imagen will update their distribution as soon as the fifth-generation (and allegedly final) version, which is supposedly nearing completion, is released. Cheers, Les Earnest Stanford AI Lab. (& Imagen shareholder) * Lucida is a trademark of Bigelow & Holmes. Times Roman and Helvetica are alleged trademarks of Allied Corporation.

From: Chris Torek <chris@maryland> From: Les Earnest <LES@SU-AI.ARPA> Chris Torak: E, please! ^ TorEk... In response to your message of 31 May 85 08:45:19 edt, about "horrible disgusting swill," I suspect that you have never seen an Imagen font -- they have been available only the last couple of months. It came with the Imagen software for our 8/300---what else can I call it but an Imagen font? It is, however, important if it's still the "default" font that you're distributing---is it or isn't it? (I think the remainder of your message makes it clear that it is.) So let's let everyone know that they really should consider one of the new fonts an essential part of the price of an 8/300, if they plan to use troff. 'Nuf said (I hope!), Chris
