From: AALevy@MIT-MULTICS.arpa Hi, We are currently using a LN01 on a Vax system and are thinking of upgrading to a faster (at least 24 pages a minute). I would like reccomendations and experience (I have heard of the Imagen and QMS machines). I am particularly concerned with using SCRIBE on VMS. I would like to get concurrent graphics and text. How much installtion trouble will we have? Any recommendations on a nice (hopefully not too expensive) graphics package would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Allan PS How compatible to the LN01 will it be.

From: (Bill Johnston [csam]) johnston@lbl-csam We recently installed 3 Talaris 2400 printers on a cluster of DEC 8600's. Although it is a little early to tell, they seem to be working well, and the integration with VMS is good. Graphics and typesetting files are dealt with by the VMS print spooler (as modified by Talaris) like text files. The 2400's seem to be plug compatable replacements for DEC's impact line printers. The primary drawback is the limited input paper hopper size (1500 sheets). The 2400's are sufficiently similar to the LN01's (both are QMS derivatives) the DEC has agreed to maintain them.
