From: mirror!rs@cca-unix (Rich Salz) Does anyone know of Tegra and their "Genesis" machine? The first mention I ever heard was in _Mass_High_Tech_, a free-circulation newsprint rag. They make a 1000dpi laser printer that's compatible with two VERY common typesetters. The article said they just got $4.75Meg of second-round financing, bringin the total to $7Meg. They are in Billerica, MA. Text in quotes is from the _MHT_ article. According to Freda, Genesis uses a "laser-xerographic process." Genesis makes the copies by creating an image a drum with a laser, and then transferring it to plain paper. The resolution is 100dpi. "Genesis is plug-compatible with teh Linotron 202 and Compugraphic 8600 typesetters. 'Anything their front end system can create on their 202 or 8600, they can create on Gensis,' said Freda." "Genesis' printing speed is 1500 lpm, and it electronically sizes characters from 4.5 points to 127 point, using the Bitstream library of typefaces. Freda said it offers a full range of typesetting features, including ligatures, small caps, inferiors and superiours, high characters, condensing, expanding, rules, and reverse video." They have sold 12 Genesis machines, starting at $36k. The firm was founded by Ward Baxter and Thomas Fay, formerly of Atex.
