From: king@Kestrel (Dick King) Beware of assuming cartridges are similar. We have an IMAGEN 8/300, and we saw a canon personal copier in a discount outlet near the office. The 8/300 cartridges cost appx $100, and the personal copier cartridges about $60, so we naturally decided to give 'em a try. Turns out they're very similar, except that they have notches and tabs and gimmiks that have no apparent purpose EXCEPT to keep you from using the "wrong" one in the "wrong" machine. I now suspect that any two cartridges with different numbers are not interchangible. -dick [[Editor's note: This is a different matter, and one that has been discussed on the list before. For the education of new readers, I'm sending this note out. It is quite clear that the toner cartridges sold for the Canon laser printers and the toner cartridges sold for the Canon photocopiers are *incompatible* with each other. The reason for this is apparently that the polarity of the toner differs between laser printer and toner cartridge. The question under current discussion is whether or not toner cartridges sold for different varieties of the Canon laser printer are compatible with each other. The gist of Brian Reid's message, which preceded this one, is that yes indeed they are compatible. --Rick ]]
