From: zar%Xhmeia@CIT-Hamlet.arpa I have an accounting package called ACCNT (pub domain) which allows you to charge per page or per line. We have a Talaris (QMS) T800 Laser printer. Setting this up with the DEC/Talaris symbiont as a terminal print queue, the printer reports # lines read and # lines sent to the printer (VMS accounting GETS and QIOS) as well as what it thinks is the pages printed (determined by the form LENGTH setting of the print queue). My accounting program also requests to know how many pages the printer is capable of printing per minute and the total possible lines that can be printed per page. My parameters for the T800 for the ACCNT program set a line charge of 0.002 / line with 8 pgs / min capability and 3300 (11 in X 300 dpi) max line / pg. The accounting program will charge per page if it can, then per line if the lines printed / (lines / pg) is less than 8 pgs / min, then finally it will divide the line count by 3300 to get a page count. This still has some problems, but its better than charging for the disk space of the plot job. If you're interested, send me mail to aquire my accounting package, (as well as documentation - I didn't do a very good job of explaining this) but if not, I suggest playing with your own accounting and QIOS/GETS with the PRINT VMS accounting record.
