I just put the third cartridge in our LaserWriter about 2 weeks ago. The first 2 cartridges were packaged by Apple, and the print quality was great. The new cartridge is a Canon, #R34-0002-000 (a previous message from Brian Reid mentioned R34-0002-001, I believe). About every 10th page or so (it seems quite random), we get a small area about 10mm wide and 15mm high (the height varies more than the width) that is quite washed out (i.e., the toner is very light in that area). The position of these spots can be anywhere vertically on the page, but they seem to be confined to a fairly narrow vertical band slightly to the right of the center of the page. Shaking and rocking the cartridge doesn't seem to help. Has anyone else experienced this? Please don't tell me its the cartridge -- I have a small stock of them.

From: starkweather.pa@Xerox.arpa It could be a transfer problem. Is your machine clean? Are there any foreign objects in it? The zonal appearance of the defect sounds like a transfer defect to me. Check the machine for cleanliness or a foreign object in the transfer area. This would be the usual defect in a xerographic copier. Gary Starkweather
