[fa.laser-lovers] Can I use an Apple Laserwriter on my 780?

From: boyle@anl-mcs (James M. Boyle)

My impression is that I can buy and Apple Laserwriter and connect it
to an RS232 port on my 780 running Berkeley 4.2 Unix and happily begin
printing troff/ditroff output. Is that correct? Does one need to
order any special options?

I believe I have seen mention of ditroff-->Postscript drivers, converters
or whatever mentioned, but I don't recall the sources.

Thanks much.

the apple laserwriter does not understand ditroff etc. you must have
postscript as the input. we have just put up the transcript package
that adobe sells & it all works just great. this package does interface
to the 4.2 lpr system and can take troff or titroff output and produce
postscript for the printer. the only problem i have found is it does not
like to print header pages.
