Alright, survey time again: What was your kids favorite christmas gift? My two daughters (ages 18mo and 3yr) received, of course, way more gifts than they needed or could easily absorb all at once (including an original Cabbage Patch Doll, a Teach and Learn Computer, and much much more). (I think this comes from having three pair of distant grandparents - all of whom feel if they can't be there at least they can send gifts, and gifts, and gifts...) The biggest hit seemed to be a pair of $0.50 ``magic bottles'' - the type you tip over (say into a dolls mouth) and they seem to drain, and you tip back and they seem to refill. oh well.

With my daughter's birthday on Jan. 1, she also got an over-kill on her first Christmas/Birthday... Her favorites were a sea-otter hand puppet and a blow-up/sit-on Sir Bounce-a-lot Dragon! And the Goodnite Moon and Spot's First Walk books.

Of all the gifts my 1 1/2 year old nephew received, the ones he plays with most are: An empty 2-litre plastic bottle pots and pans teak coasters and a plastic container to put them in and out of large poker chips (for the noise) THEN toddler's first blocks (93 in all) the hammer from a 'hammer the pegs through the holes' thing (he likes to chew on it) 'popcorn popper' roll toy He actually tends to play with one thing only a few minutes at a time, other than the first 3 items. - rene -- Arpa: rene.umcp-cs@CSNet-relay Uucp:...{allegra,seismo}!umcp-cs!rene

Ah, Goodnight Moon, what a wonderful book. My son's favorites (he's 6) were the game Catapults & Crossbows (which has miniature c & c's that you and an opponent use to knock down each other's castles), and a Nike red and blue jogging suit that he's worn every day that it wasn't in the wash.

My 16-month-old son Benjamin's favorite gift seems to be either the Playskool 'Tyke-byke', a little scooter-like thing, or a small set of 'Duplo' brand building blocks. Duplo block are much like Lego brand blocks, but larger; the smallest one is unswallowable. Amazingly, he's almost able to put them together himself if he takes his time and doesn't get to impatient. Usually though, if his creation falls apart he comes to me and says 'Dada? Dada?' meaning "Father, this assembly has unacountably become discontinuous. Please reassemble it for me." (Gosh he's cute!) Oh yes, Duplo and Lego are registered trademarks of Lego International AG or whatever their exact name is. Berry Kercheval Zehntel Inc. (ihnp4!zehntel!zinfandel!berry) (415)932-6900

My one day old was not too terribly impressed with anything.
