[net.kids] solid foods --> allergies??

I am looking for information on starting infants on solid
foods. After doing some basic research, I have come across
much contradictory information. I am particularly concerned
about the relationships between types of food (and feeding
patterns) and allergies.

Some studies I have seen *suggest* that starting solid foods early
in life (<6 months) increase the chances of developing allergies.
I have heard rumors that the AMA has recommended not starting
solids until after 9 months, but have yet to find it in writing.

Another concern is the addition of new foods to an infant's diet.
Conventional wisdom says to introduce one food one at a time,
allowing enough time between different foods to notice any
allergic reaction. Other information sources, including one doctor
I talked to, state that feeding an infant the same food for two
weeks in a row will strongly increase the chances of developing
an allergy to the food.

If anyone out there would care to contribute any information,
or sources of information on this subject, I would greatly
appreciate it!
