I have heard a lot about how some of the kids in gifted programs
really deserve to be there, but many do not. If this is the case,
as it seems it must be in some school districts judging from the
responses I have received, I would like to know how many kids are in
these programs. What percentage of the kids in say the third grade
in your school or school district are in the gifted program. When
I was in elementary school, the gifted program was for only the top
one to two percent of the students, chosen only by a test. I feel
a gifted program is needed for those students that are way ahead of
their peers, but that don't want to skip a grade and be the youngest
kid in the class all of his or her life. However the number of kids
that really need a gifted program is a small percentage, in my
opinion. So please let me know what kinds of percentages we are
talking about here. Thank you.
