Last Friday, my husband and I were driving home after picking up our four-year-old daughter at preschool and she comes out with the line, "Mom, all the other mothers stay at home." Now, I know for a fact that this is not the case, as I know other working mothers at her preschool. My husband and I are both students, and have been pleased that we have been able to arrange our time so that our daughter spends only Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at preschool, while spending Tuesdays and Thursdays with one or the other of us. And that time is GOOD time, devoted very much to her. How can one deal with the stereotypes children pick up from books and television? We pointed out that she spends more time with her father than would be possible if I did not work, and that it is important to me to have time to do what I do. Arghh!! Frustrated with society...
