The house that we moved into eight years ago has a 14 by 32 foot in-ground swimming pool. We have three children (16 year old boy, 13 year old girl, and a 4 year old boy). From the time we moved in the older children's friends had their parents permission to swim in our pool whenever we also gave our permission. The younger child's friend's parents, however, do not even let their children come into our yard. Before I go on let me say that we have some rules about children's use of the pool: 1. No children are allowed in, or around the pool, without an adult being present (this does not apply to the older children--they are excellent swimmers and such a rule would be opressive.) 2. Children must have their parents permission to come into the pool. (Does not apply to the older boy, and if the girl's friends have permission to go to beaches or public pools we assume they have permission to go in our pool) 3. No solo swimming. I believe in the buddy system. 4. (Sorry about this) 4. Swimmers have to take a swimming test before they are allowed to go into the deep end. I think that about sums up our rules. My question is, "Why has there been a change in attitude from that of our older children's friend' s parents to that of our younger children's friend's parents. In all cases the parents are diffent. Before you tell me that the children are older, remember that when we moved to this house the youngest boy had not been born yet and the ages of our children were 7 and 5. Thanks in advance, Rich Soyack (My apologies for my typing)
