[net.kids] Is this newsgroup going the way of net.women?

janr@tekecs.UUCP (Jan Rowell) (08/05/84)

What ever happened to net.kids? It used to be a really nice,
humane, supportive group in which people shared their *personal*
experiences about parents and children. I've been gone from the
net for a couple months, and have returned to find that at
least half the postings in this group are the kind of abusive,
hostile, aggressive, holier-than-thou, egocentric rantings that
led a lot of people to drop out of net.women altogether. I'm
not convinced there's much to be done about the situation...other
than to wait for Rich Rosen to grow up.

I share Jan Rowell's concerns about the changing tone of this newsgroup.
I can't help but notice that it is related to Rich Rosen's participation.

Someone suggested earlier that we all quit responding to Rich Rosen's
articles. I strongly suggest we do just that. I for one ALWAYS
hit "n" when I see his name in the heading. The few times my eyes
don't catch it and I see his name at the end I quickly interrupt
the article and go on to something more worthwhile. That way I am
NEVER tempted to respond no matter how outrageous he is; what you
don't read you can't react to.

I also follow this same behavior while reading net.women. Unfortunately,
they are so many offensive people contributing to that newsgroup
that this technique is less useful. Perhaps it's time to give up on it.
