Does anyone know of informative sex ed. books that kids could read and understand (ages 10 & 12). I have had some discussions with them, and of course they "pick up" odds and ends from other kids. But I want them to know the facts, not just rumors from other kids and I don't know that I've told them everything (I'm sure I haven't). Also are there any good books that parents should read before talking to their kids about sex? I want my kids to be able to discuss sex with me and ask questions, and I think that if there are books that both them and I can share and read together that it would help. Thanks in advance. Depends on the framework in which you want to teach them, e.g., if you're a Christian or not. If you are, then you can probably find a couple of good ones in Christian bookstores. Unless the proprietors are some of those, um, "inhibited" Christians that we all know about from net.singles. Larry Christenson has a good one out. -- Paul DuBois {allegra,ihnp4,seismo}!uwvax!uwmacc!dubois "Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight." Psalm 119:35

[] "Try _The Facts of Love_ by Alex and Jane Comfort." But read it before you decide whether to pass it to your kids. This book is centered around the "if it feels good, do it" philosophy, which is fine for some of us, but it does a grave disservice in its discussion of VD: the authors claim that VD is no longer something to worry about, as it can be cleared up with simple medical treatment. With an estimated 10% of the American population suffering from herpes, scores of people dead of AIDS, and several bacterial resistent strains of other VDs spreading, this rosey view of the world is not something that I want my kid(s) to pick up. -- Andrew Klossner (decvax!tektronix!orca!andrew) [UUCP] (orca!andrew.tektronix@rand-relay) [ARPA]
