[net.kids] When should we start giving her solid food?

dave@utcsrgv.UUCP (Dave Sherman) (10/10/84)

Ariela is now almost six months old, and since her birth has had
no food other than what she gets from nursing. So far she's grown
wonderfully. Our pediatrician has suggested we might start her on
rice cereal this month. Any suggestions as to whether we should or
not? She seems happy enough, although she watches us like a hawk when
we eat - she seems to be very interested in our food. She hasn't cut
any teeth yet, although she's been chomping down on things with hard
gums for several months now.

We've heard of mothers who have given the babies nothing but
breast milk for a year or more. Should we be in a rush to give
Ariela solid food? What about the things we're eating and drinking
(in tiny quantities, of course) instead of rice cereal (yecch)?

Thanks for any comments, suggestions and anecdotes. I'll
post a summary if anyone's interested.
