[net.kids] mixing up languages

srradia@watmath.UUCP (sanjay Radia) (10/24/84)

I had a similar problem with mixing up languages. I speak english
and Gujrati (an indian language) fluently, but Hindi slightly (although
I understand it quite well). I also used to speak a little bit of Swahili.
After living for a year and a half in France, I learnt French. Now when
ever I have problems expressing myself in Hindi or Swahili,
I mix in French words (even though I understand Hindi much better than French).

I have often wondered if a child is raised bilingual which language
do they think in? Or do we even think in a language???
