[net.kids] Spanking as a euphemism

joel@decwrl.UUCP (Joel McCormack) (01/31/85)

Heh, you want to express an opinion about spanking, okay. But I don't
like the holier-than-thou attitude in Jan Wolitzky's recent mail. I haven't
seen ANY scientific studies that say spanking turns kids into axe-murderers.

Equating spanking with the violence problems of the world is a little
like telling people who want to get an abortion that they are no better than
Nazis. Growing kids up right is not yet a science. To presume to KNOW as
much as Jan evidently does, and to be as intolerant of what I consider a
minor, but sometimes effective method of discipline, contributes more to
world problems than spanking.
