From "Consumer Reports" of March, 1985, news of product recalls important for
children:
Child safety seats (see below). In a crash, seat may crack and break loose
from anchorage belt, allowing shoulder harness to loosen.
Models: 2123 child safety seats made by TRW Inc., with following model
names: Century Child Love Seat; AMC Child Love Seat; Chrysler Child
Love Seat; Alkit Child Love Seat. Potentially defective seats have no.
4477C4 stamped on back.
What to do: Have dealer replace seat or refund purchase price, or call
manufacturer toll-free at 800-255-7328.
Baby pacifier Pur model INF-920. Nipple may come off, allowing child to
swallow or inhale it.
Product: 1716 pacifiers sold before Dec. 11, 1984. Pacifier, retailing
at about $1.59, is made entirely of transparent plastic and silicone;
shield has three ventilation holes and the word "pur" and the number
"0", "1", "2", or "3" in raised lettering on the underside.
What to do: Dealers who have posted a recall notice will replace
pacifier with redesigned one. If no notice is posted, send pacifier to
Monterey Labs., P.O. Box 15129, Las Vegas, Nev. 89114, for replacement
plus two free nipples. Monterey will pay postage.
Columbia Parkcycle children's sidewalk bicycle. Front fork of some bicycles
(see below) may fail, allowing child to fall.
Models: 15,390 16-inch bicycles identified as X2 Tiger model 2122
(black, for boys) and Rainbow Connection model 2121 (pink, for girls)
and sold until Feb. 8, 1984, for about $75. If serial number at rear
begins with 3212 or a lower number, fork may be faulty.
What to do: Ask dealer for new fork and instructions for installation
or write Customer Service, Columbia Mfg. Co., 1 Cycle St, Westfield,
Mass. 01086, specifying bicycle's color; manufacturer will mail the
fork and instructions.
