One evening recently, my daughter who is almost eight was lying in bed thinking. What she was thinking was, "I wonder what holds up the clothes pole in my closet." So she decided to investigate, and you can guess what happened. I *thought* I heard her crying a little in bed, but by the time I got upstairs, the sound had stopped. Next morning she was obviously upset about something, and with a little encouragement she confided her dreadful secret to me. I try to be a good mother; I didn't laugh until I got out of the house. I smiled and assured her it would be easy to fix, and told her to get all the clothes off the closet floor before I got home. The funny thing is that when I got home from work, everything was back in place. When she was afraid we would be angry, she was unable to act, but when she knew she wasn't in trouble, she saw how to fit the pole into the brackets and restore order. And now she certainly knows what holds up the clothes pole in her closet.(:-))
