b Did anyone else read the editorial "UNIX falls short of standard status" in the September 1984 issue of Mini-Micro Systems, by George V.Kotelly, Editor in chief? It contained such gems as "[Unix] has no security capability" and "Unix doesn't contain the important microcomputer-software features needed today. These features include ... machine in- dependence, ... multitasking,... memory protection, security ...". As examples of better solutions from "forward-thinking" software companies the editorial holds up "Concurrent DOS" (Digital Research Inc) and "S1" (Multi Solution Inc.). There are many more mistakes than this, but I don't feel like do- ing that much typing right now. How can those of us trying to get Unix into all those environ- ments where it is needed going to correct misunderstanding when industry magazines reinforce misconceptions this way? -David Dick ( {decvax, ittvax}!sii!drd )
