[net.kids] Hint for the almost night-trained kids

peg@linus.UUCP (Margaret E. Craft) (05/30/85)

My 2 1/3 year old has been day time trained for six months, but still
has night time accidents, and I got tired of washing sheets, so tried to talk
her back into the diaper at bedtime. No go. Luckily I hit upon a solution
that preserves bedtime peacefulness and dry sheets, too:

When I put her to bed, no diaper.
When *I* go to bed, I slip one on her. She seldom wakes, and if
she does I give her the option of going potty or wearing the diaper. She's
usually not awake enough to care, so I just diaper her.

When she wakes up, she takes the diaper off and, if it's dry, she
congratulates her belly (who gets both blame and credit for nighttime
control) and goes to pee. If it's wet, no big deal, just a lecture (by her)
to her belly about growing up soon. Pretty neat.

When she's gone a week with no accident, I'll make it training pants
instead.

Interesting. My son was night trained for 9 months before he manageded
to maintain during the day.

Why give her the option? I just always take my 3 year old to the
toilet when I go to bed at night. She doesn't have any trouble going
right back to sleep, and hasn't wet her bed in months.
