A funny thing happened yesterday. Saw the new Disney movie "Return to Oz". The theater was full of young kids and parents with younger kids, the kind of crowd you'd expect to see for a Disney movie, and especially a movie from the OZ books. Well, the flick started, and about 1/2 hour into it people started leaving. The little girl behind me started insisting her dad take her home. Pretty soon, we had a crying kid over on the other side of the building. The ending credits played to noticeably fewer movie-goers than the begining credits played to. I think the problem is that we all expected the movie to be lighthearted and fun like the first one. It isn't. It's dark and scary and very intense. It's also the best movie I've seen in years! But *I'm* not five years old. There's nothing I've seen in the advertisements that suggest the mood to Return to Oz, and I think entirely too many people may be taking their young kids to see it and getting a shock. Please, before you do this, see it yourself and see what you are getting into. Kids under 8 may have problems with the intensity of this film. Again, I thought the movie was wonderful. But those unhappy children in the audience... Well, I had to say something. -- __ Ron Christian (Watkins-Johnson Co. My four year old won't watch it, because it's too scary. If you ask anyone what they remember from the original OZ, they will probably describe one of the scary parts! -- ------------------------------------------------------------------- Dave Lowrey "To vacillate or not to vacillate, that is the question.... ....or is it?" ...!(<sun,cbosgd,ihnp4}!amdahl!dwl10 [ The opinions expressed <may> be those of the author and not necessarily those of his most eminent employer. ]
