My brother had a teacher who tried to change him from left handedness in first grade. My mother (also a lefty) went to school and raised holy hell. She was convinced that it caused him problems in learning to read that gave him problems later. It is true that he was a late-bloomer and still hates to read. (Although he is a lawyer now, and I am sure makes more than I do :-) One thing you might consider: I am sure that you will get a pretty unanimous decision here that such a thing is dangerous. However, I have learned that it is also dangerous to tell parents that they are raising their child wrong. Consider how close the friends are, and be very tactful if you decide to bring it up.
