It's pretty common to use more than one diaper at a time, especially at
night and with bigger kids, for more absorbency.

Our first wore cloth diapers, washed at home. Our second wore
disposables. We thought the added cost was a good trade for the
time not spent doing diapers and the convenience of not having to
deal with buckets full of dirty, smelly diapers. Who needs it?
[Obviously, we didn't have any reaction problems or we wouldn't
have gone this route; we know several other kids who could not
wear most brands of disposables.] We also had less diaper rash
with disposables.
