(8th in a series of articles on adoption of an "older child" from Korea) David has now been with us 6 months. Not much has changed since our last status report. He is still an absolute joy to have around, a normal 7 year old, full of smiles and into everything. He is doing well in 2nd grade, below grade level in academics, but catching up fast. We are now working on use of pronouns and plurals and trying to have him use more complex sentences. He still uses his fingers to count out addition and subtraction (with really imaginative ways to work out 15-12= type problems). He goes to the 1st grade for reading and has special help from an ESL teacher and a part-time tutor supplied by the school. Socially he is the darling of the school (and home). He wins them over with a ready smile and earthy humor (all the kids a school know what the kid-korean word "bongo" means, we hope the teachers don't). We expect to get a court date any time now for formal adoption and name change. After that we can file for his naturalization. We don't have the time to complete this series of articles soon. If you have any questions we may be able to answer, please send a note. Mel Haas , [ihnp4]!genesis!mel , [ihnp4]!houxa!mel1
