[net.kids] Wham-o Air Blaster

bhayes@glacier.ARPA (Barry Hayes) (12/17/85)

I just called the Wham-o company, and they say they stopped making
the Air Blaster about three years ago, and no more in stock. I wanted
to give myself one for Christmas, and I'm hoping that one of you
fine people might have one sitting in the attic that you could spare.
Please?

I think that one of the reasons this device was pulled from the
market is that some kids kept putting their ears to the nozzle and
firing--which could (I suppose) result in ear damage. How likely
this was to occur, of course, depends on the kid--I had one for
years and never heard of anyone having problems. I guess if you
gave it to a very young child there could be trouble.

They tended to always fail in the same manner--the cocking handle
would snap (plastic). This was not repairable without a new
handle, which was generally unavailable.

Frankly, I was amazed to hear that they were made as recently as
three years ago.
