I have gotten into the habit of wearing shoes to work and usually leave
them on after I arrive home. On non-work days I put shoes on before I
leave the apartment, unless I am just going down to the corner to pick up
a newspaper or something. I like being able to feel the surfaces I am
walking on. I like not having my feet feeling confined.

When my daughter was younger, she wore shoes for protection and warmth,
and when socially or legally required (to church and stores).
I did not require her to wear shoes inside. I did not always require her to
wear shoes outside. This was many years ago. Today I would require
wearing shoes outside more often. There seems to be more things to protect
the feet from.
