Re the spanking discussion (euphemistically yours): I read and interesting article once (about 6 years ago - no reference information available) about what kids said about punishment. According to this article, kids didn't mind spankings so much. However, the worst punishment they could think of was to be hollered at. They hated that more than anything else. The writer's conclusion (from the comments of the children) was that shouting was humiliating, whereas spanking was a just punishment. Many of the children in the article reported that they knew when they "should" be spanked, that they under- stood what behaviour "deserved" a spanking, and therefore they didn't resent the punishment. (They didn't say that they avoided that behaviour, tho. *sigh*). And they reported that shouting made them feel small, or stupid, or just horrible. -- Adrienne Regard "I don't know if I'm reasonable, but I am right."
