Syndrome News (page 61)]

                        NDSC SEEKS INFORMATION

The NDSC Central Office is seeking information from members and
readers in two areas.

First, information is sought from parents whose children are in other
than a conventional school program, i.e., Montessori, private "regular"
schools, residential schools, public "segregated" schools, etc. The
Central Office receives many calls from persons who want to be able to
cite success stories in a variety of ventures but who don't know whom
to contact.

Second, as part of its on-going interest in the whole person with Down
syndrome, the NDSC is soliciting information on adolescents and adults with
DS who have experienced meaningful relationships with a peer of the opposite
sex. This could cover anything from friendships and dating, to
engagement, marriage and children.

There is very little know about adolescents and adults with Down syndrome
and their personal lives once they leave the shelter of the family home.
The NDSC wishes to document the belief that people with DS are capable
of experiencing meaningful relationships at a variety of levels with
members of the opposite sex.

Be as detailed or brief as you wish in sending information. All names
will be kept in confidence.

All information and any questions about the above requests should be sent
to the NDSC Central Offices at 1800 Dempster Street, Park Ridge, IL
60068-1146 or telephoned to 1-800-232-NDSC.
