I just finished reading Jan Sky & Telescope's article on IRAS. The initial data tends to indicate that of 450 stars searched only 50 had associated debris and dust clouds thought to be caused by possible planetary systems. This is about 11 per cent. Does anyone remember what Carl Sagan was estimating the number of planetary systems were in Drake's equation? If this result is verified how is it likely to affect the SETI searches? Fred Mendenhall
