Although my position on subgroups is well known, they are a reality on this net now (for better or for worse), and IF the suggestion comes up regarding a separate group for discussion of electronic music or synthesizers, I would *highly* recommend that, rather than a separate subgroup just for electronic music playing/recording discussion, we create a subgroup devoted to ALL musicians, music playing/performance, instruments, recording, etc. (perhaps to be called "net.music.play"). I agree with Marcel Simon that discussion of the music itself (electronic or otherwise) continue in net.music (or, if you must, in some music category subgroup), while discussion of the instruments, technology, techniques, etc. be in the new musician-oriented subgroup. As a musician myself, I would greatly prefer this to a subgroup just for electronic music technology. (Actually, playing/performing/recording of music is really a discrete topic from music listening, and such a group may be very useful for communication between musicians. I would hope that it wouldn't divide up into little cubbyholes like net.music.play.rock, net.music.play.classical, etc. Hopefully that's not just hoping against hope...) -- BRIAN: "You're all different!"
