Star Date is a seven-year-old radio series produced by the
University of Texas McDonald Observatory. It's heard on about
145 commercial and public radio stations, as well as on Voice of
America and, occasionally, on TransWorld Airlines in-flight pro-
gramming.
We decided to place Star Date scripts on net.astro because a
variety of people asked that we do so. I appreciate all of you
who've made positive comments -- and I can assure you that the
technical editors for the series, who are astronomers at McDonald
Observatory, scrupulously require scientific accuracy!
We've had a number of requests from net readers who want to
transcribe the scripts to another system -- or read them them-
selves over local radio stations. Our response to all of these
requests is, if you please, no. Star Date survives solely on in-
come from radio stations which subscribe to the series. Its
availability on net.astro is a trial run only, subject to deter-
mining if we are jeopardizing our own ability to continue to sell
the series. We're happy that many of you like reading the
scripts, but we'll greatly appreciate your not using them in any
way. The scripts are in fact copyrighted for this very reason.
Thank you again to all of you who've made kind remarks about
Star Date!
