[net.astro] Nova Discovery

rrm@inuxe.UUCP (Ron Meyer) (08/17/84)

A recent Nova was discovered by M. Wakuta, Japan in its premaximum stage.
It has been given the designation Nova Vulpeculae 1984. Its position in terms
of epoch 2000 coordinates are:

		19 hrs. 26min 05 sec +27 deg. 16.0 min.

Here are some of the recent observations as made by AAVSO members.

Nova Vul. '84 is located approximately 1 degree to the southwest of Beta Cyg.
(alberieo). Although Beta. Cyg is easy to find I was not able to say with
100% certainty that I had correctly identified the Nova. As everyone knows
this area of the sky is in the heart of the milky way, therefore it is extremelydifficult to find the variable of interest. One must take care in finding this
object if its magnitude is to be estimated for scientific purposes.
Preliminary c and d scale charts are available from the AAVSO. For more
information contact the AAVSO or consult AAVSO alert notices 65 & 66.
