[net.misc] PDP-11 FOR SALE - WESTERN USA

ron@celerity.UUCP (Ron McDaniels) (11/06/84)

[Yes, I know this is probably NOT the right newsgroup - I'm so confused!]

Due to the financial stress brought on by living on the planet Earth in the
latter half of the 20th Centry (C.E.), the following computer system is
offered for sale.

	Item	Description
	----	---------------------------------------------------------
	  1.	System chassis. 5 1/4 ", RETMA. 8-quad slot Q-bus, 22-bit
addressing, 40 amp. power supply. Manufactured by Sigma
Information Systems and is sold by a number of systems
integrators. Front panel switches for power, ENABLE/HALT
		and Clock ENABLE/DISABLE.

	  2.	DEC 11/23 CPU

	  3.	Camintonn, quad-width, 1 Mbyte dynamic ram, CSR parity memory.

	  4.	DEC DLV-11/J 4-channel serial controller card.

	  5.	8-inch (1 Mbyte) floppy disc subsystem consisting of the
		following:

			- 5 1/4" RETMA floppy chassis (matches system chassis)
			  with power supply.

			- 2 8-inch Sugart 501 single-sided floppy disc drives.

			- Sigma Information Systems dual-width floppy disc
controller and cable (RX02 compatible, will also
work with double-sided, 8-inch drives). This
controller has a 22-bit addressing mode.

	  6.	10 Mbyte disc subsystem consisting of the following:

			- Western Dynex top-loading disc drive. 5 Mbyte fixed
			  and 5 Mbyte removable cartridge.

			- Quad-width, 18-bit addressing disc controller for the
above drive. Will allow connection of one additional
drive with a "Pertec" style interface.

	  7.	160 Mbyte disc subsystem consisting of the following:

			- 8-inch Fujitsu high performance Winchester disc
drive mounted in a 10" RETMA chassis with power
			  supply and fan.

			- Dilog DQ-215 "universal" Winchester disc controller,
			  quad-width, 22-bit addressing. Controller emulates
			  RK07s.

	  8.	6', 19-inch RETMA cabinet. I will admit to this being the weak
link in the whole system. This rack was purchased for $50
dollars and with an additional $50 of baked-on enamel, doesn't
look too bad. Just looks old-fashioned. It does hold the system
		however.

	  9.	All cables to interconnect the above.

This system has been lovingly assembled over the last 5 years and was the
primary tool for a moderately sucessful consulting business. The system
has never been raced and is owned by a conservative "little-old-consultant"
from Fallbrook, California (Avocado Capital of the World - and you think
Pasadena is dull!!!).

With an 11/73 processor, it would be a very nice BSD 2.9 system. I know of a
near-identical system running U**X Version 7/m. If there is an interest in
using the system in a U**X environment, I can supply (at a modest cost) DZ-11
emulating 8-line controllers as well as the 11/73 processor. Of course, there
is a veritable glut of non-U**X system and application software available for
the PDP-11.

Now, just like in a fine resturant, the tab. A triffle. . .

$11,990 (marked down from $12,000!), FOB Fallbrook, CA.

Installation in the San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles area at no additional
cost. Elsewhere will cost you. Everything works and I would be willing to set-up
some scheme to give you a warm feeling that it would continue to work for a
reasonable period of time.

Please contact me directly. I am posting this for a friend (ME!).

Note: DEC and PDP are registered trademarks of Digital Equipment Corporation.

Digital Equipment Corporation is also (probably) a registered trademark
      of the same company (recurse).

RETMA is a registered trademark of some standards organization that I
can't recall the name of but use anyway, just to impress people. They
(RETMA, not people) insist that everything that mounts in an electronic
equipment chassis fit into a 19" wide hole.

CSR is a registerd trademark of the Channel Status Register Company,
Fallbrook, CA. ( that's just a joke, you know).

Also: This doesn't have anything to do with my employer (of course, you
probably had that one figured out by now).
