[net.astro] Quantum scopes

I'm afraid that Quantum went out of business a few yrs ago (5) -- too
bad as their scopes were much nicer than Questars for slightly less
money. I had the opportunity to test a 6" and a prototype 8" just before
they evaporated - the 8" was very superior to the 7" Questar and only
cost about $3k (gad - you could have a Dobsonian the size of a VW for
that much). I tried to buy a used 6" Quantum two years back only to find
that its owner wanted 150% of its last know list price.

My main interest in a Quantum was to have a reasonably nice portable
telescope. Since that time I have noticed several light weight large
aperture reflectors described in the pages of Sky and Telescope. Does
anyone know about any commercial versions of these monsters, or do they
only appear at Stellafane and Riverside?
