[net.misc] Billions and billions

hollombe@ttidcc.UUCP (Jerry Hollombe) (11/22/84)

Ironically, it was Johnny Carson who gave the best demonstration of the
concept of "billion" I've heard. He read an article that someone had
written that explained how long ago 1 billion seconds, minutes, hours,
days, weeks, months, years, and dollars were by giving relevant events in
history. After hearing all the others, the horrifying one is dollars. 1
billion dollars is 10.5 hours ago for the Federal government. That's how
long it takes them to spend that much (... pop goes the weasle. (-: ).

Interesting discussion, nanosagans, millisagans.

I have forwarded this letter to Carl. I know he will get a good laugh out of
this. I will post a response from him if I get one.
