In the summer, the thought of looking at the pre-dawn sky seems repulsive, or at least inane, but in late december, it isn't too much trouble. On December 12th through 25th, you should be able to see the Planets Mercury and Saturn in the pre-dawn twilight. This will be the best view of Mercury all year. Before December 17th, Saturn will be below Mercury in the sky. On the 17th, they will be within 1/2 a degree of each other, After that Saturn will be above Mercury. On the 17th, They will be almost exactly between southeast, and east southeast.
