I recently heard a probably much-mangled rumor to the effect that a satellite (IRAS, I'm guessing) has discovered an object object of unknown type heading towards us which is visible only in the infrared and is at fairly close range. Now, I know this isn't much to go on, and it sounds like whatever truth is at the source of this was passed through the Enquirer on the way to my friend's brain, but I am definitely curious what they were really talking about. The story must be a couple years old if the source of the observation was IRAS. I wish I knew what fairly close range was (interplanetary?), but I can only speculate. Does anyone have any idea what I'm referring to? Can you fill me in? Speculation welcome. Thanks.
