[net.misc] Question about Phone recording

preston@fortune.UUCP (Carol Preston) (11/27/84)

I made a phone call and got a strange recording. It sounded like the
same voice who does "The number you have reached is not in service..."
The recording said :

"This number is not on the network. 2-eye-eye."

Does anybody know what this means? Please mail since this probably isn't
of general interest.

Hmm, that IS strange.

Now, if it were "Eye-eye-eye", I would assume Captain Hook...

Were you using something like MCI ? I've gotten similar messages when
trying to call the Worcester, Mass. income tax office. I could never
get through with MCI... always got a message like that. When I finally
gave up and went with a standard Bell connection, it worked fine.
