I am looking for an IBM-PC readable star catalog. I have the printed SKY CATALOGUE 2000.0 and know that SKYMAP is available in machine- readable form -- but is there any way for me to get a few thousand stars (say apparent magnitude 5.0 or brighter) into an IBM-PC program without entering them all by hand? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please leave me E-mail on USENET or (in SF Bay Area) the WELL. Thank you -- Carter Scholz / 2665 Virginia / Berkeley CA 94709 / (415) 548-3654

The 9000-star Yale Bright Star Catalog is available in machine-readable form. I have the following address for it: Dr. Wayne Warren National Space Science Data Center Code 601 Goddard Space Center Greenbelt, MD 20771 The following info should be noted: 1) The document from which I got this address is circa 1979, and the address or any of the following information may have changed. 2) The catalog was available on magtape only (not floppy). 3) No price was given. Do not expect the catalog to be free, however. 4) The data will consume about 1.8 megabytes of storage. greg -- Greg Titus ..!ucbvax!unmvax!nmtvax!greg (uucp) NM Tech Computer Center ..!cmcl2!lanl!nmtvax!greg (uucp) Box W209 C/S greg@nmt (CSnet) Socorro, NM 87801 greg.nmt@csnet-relay (arpa) (505) 835-5735 ======================================================================

Did not have a path to the well, so here goes. The Yale Catalog of Bright Stars is available on floppy disks from SIG/M, Volumes 31-39 inclusive. These diskettes are 8" single density, CP/M compatible file structure. They may be obtainable from a local CP/M bbs or RCPM as well. With a Modem7 protocol handler you should have no problem getting these files. SIGM is a national users group which publishes public domain CP/M software. SIG/M c/o Amatuer Computer Group of New Jersey UCTI 1776 Raritan Road Scotch Plains, NJ 07076 This address is rather old, so you might check it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Richard R.
