Last week I used the International Genealogical Index at a Mormon branch library in Naperville. The I.G.I. is a index by surname of all the family data sheets which have been submitted to the Mormon genealogical databank. It is arranged by location (state or country) and is on microfilm. The microfilm at this library I believe was vintage 1981. I found information on a few of the lines I am researching in Czechoslovakia and Italy. The Czechoslovakian data was circa 1800 and I cannot prove a direct connection although the place and names were correct. I am now waiting for copies of the original submitter's documents (only 25 cents per page) from Salt Lake City. All in all, the I.G.I. is a great place to get a start or at least some inspiration. An interesting note: One of the librarians stated that the I.G.I. is being computerized and soon (how soon I don't know) anyone will be able to dial-up the main computer at the library in Salt Lake City and do their research.
