One of the few advantages to having a name that is difficult for most Americans to spell and/or pronounce is that when you meet someone with the same name there is a 99% chance that they are a relative. However, last summer I met a man(Terry) in Cincinnati, Ohio who was definitely a Schoenling, but completely denied being related to anyone of the branches of my family. Having spent the last 30 years believing that all American Schoenlings were descended from Pete Phillip Schoenling(immigrated to U.S. in 1852) and Rosena Frei(immigrated with mother and sisters in 1854?) I was somewhat confused. To my knowledge, the only Schoenling family members in the world live in either metropolitan Cincinnati, Ohio, Raleigh, N.C., or Altamonte Springs, Florida. Is there another branch out there that I don't know about(other than Terry's brach) ? I would really appreciate it if anyone reading this would look in their local telephone book and let me know if there are any Schoenling names in it. I would especially like to know if any of my German relatives survived the unpleasantness of the first half of this century. Rumor has it they came from the Rhinefels (Rhinefeltz?) area of what is now W. Germany. Thanks in advance, Dick Schoenling decvax!ittvax!ittral (P.S.- If anyone's curious, its pronounced "Shane-ling")
