[net.roots] Looking for my roots

buls@dataio.UUCP (Rick Buls) (08/14/85)

Ok,

I know there is not much traffic on net.root, is that because no one
is interested in their roots? I've been into looking, off and on, for
about five years. I am at the point of not knowing what to do next, so
why not try the net? Since all the surnames I'm looking for
are so rare I'm sure their is a conection to anyone else with the
same surnames. So does anyone have any connection to the following
surnames?:

Buls(my fathers name of course)(from Germany in 1883)
	Lobdell(my mothers maiden name)(Claude,George R,George(NY))
	Ells(my grandmothers maiden name)(John A., Arnold(NY))
	Hofstra(my other grandmother(grew up as a Clark)(Aaron)

Emma Gorey(????)( this may have been my great grandmother, married
John Ells in Minnesota in 1870s)

I have access to the Archives, the Seattle and UW Library, and The Mormon
Records, but I am having trouble getting further. I have marraige, death
and birth records, but as you know they get thin the further back you go.
I would really like to find fathers of George Lobdell (born 1799 in NY) and
Arnold Ells(born 1810? in NY). Also I need the maiden names of the wifes
of George R. Lobdell( Betsy Holden?), Arnold Ells(Ruth), and John Ells
(Emma Gorey??). Please mail any information or suggestions to me
at
 	uw-beaver!entropy!dataio!buls.

PS I am also interested in doing research here for research into my family
roots. My needs are for research in Mankato(Blue Earth) and Redwood County
in Minnesota, in Northern New Jersey, and in New York State (Buffalo?).

I would have sent this to you as a reply but haven't quite got the
hang of that yet. Everything I send keeps getting returned. The most
active net for genealogy is the ROOTS-BBS in San Francisco (415)586-8973
300/1200 8/n/1. I try to check in here and do some cross-messaging as
well. You might check the Indiana Historical Society's genealogy section
newsletter for (scratch that).... check the New England Historical and
Genealogy Society's "NEXUS" for April 1985. There is a surname query in
that issue for Lobdell. Using the ROOTS-BBS files I checked for all your
names in the publications of New England, New York, Ohio, Calif, Indiana,
and the current family research for York, Treganza, Saunders, Welch and
could find only that one. It might be worth your while following up on.
The sysop on ROOTS-BBS can give you the full text of the query if you dont
have access to that publication.
